Swan Expeditions, the Frisian company that carries out unique Tall Ship expeditions, is entering into a new partnership with a third Tall Ship: the Regina Maris. This new collaboration will enable the company to increase its capacity for the Masterskip educational programme.
“We are very excited about this new collaboration,” says Eelke Hoekstra, director of Swan Expeditions. “With the addition of a third Tall Ship, we can give even more people the chance to experience one of our unique programmes. Whether that is participating in our Masterskip programme or joining one of the other voyages in Northern Europe.”. The team of the Regina Maris has a lot of experience in the field of (sail) training, and is therefore very suitable for executing the Masterskip educational programme.

Expanding fleet
In recent years, Swan Expeditions has seen an exponential growth in interest for its Masterskip education programme, resulting in the purchase of Tall Ship Noorderlicht in 2021. With its ice-reinforced bow, this ship was originally built for high latitude cruising. With Masterskip she sailed to warmer destinations for the first time in 20 years.
Masterskip as incentive
“With the addition of the Noorderlicht, we have been able to meet the demand for our Masterskip voyages this school year. However, this alone is not enough.” says Hoekstra. “By partnering with a larger ship, we can increase our Masterskip capacity even further.” Together, the Wylde Swan and the Regina Maris will sail 9 Masterskip voyages next year, each with their own itinerary.

Northern sailing areas
An additional advantage is that Tall Ship Noorderlicht can continue to sail year-round in high latitude sailing areas. Hoekstra: “We want to expand our expeditions capacity for individuals and groups in the coming years. With the Noorderlicht permanently based in the North, this offers plenty of opportunities.” Currently Swan expeditions offers a wide variety of expeditions to Spitsbergen. “With small groups our guests experience the Arctic nature in a pure and more authentic way compared to the larger cruise vessels” says Hoekstra
Fulfilling a mission
Swan Expeditions’ mission is to create life-changing experiences to remote destinations. “We are very happy with this new partnership,” says Hoekstra. “We look forward to offering our guests even more unique and unforgettable experiences.”.
