World Ocean Day!

Every year on the 8th of June we celebrate and take action!

On this day, it’s important to raise awareness about the significance of the oceans for the planet and the importance of protecting them. So spread the word!

The theme for the United Nations World Oceans Day 2023 is:

“Planet Ocean: Tides are Changing”. “It aims to uncover the hidden facets of planet Earth and create a fresh surge of enthusiasm for preserving and safeguarding the ocean and our entire blue planet.”

Help the oceans

YOU can help the oceans! Easily and quickly! Here are a few examples:

✔️ Stop using disposable plastic:

  • Use a reusable water bottle
  • Bring your own shopping bag
  • Purchase unpackaged products
  • Use metal or bamboo straws
  • Use reusable tableware
  • Use biodegradable products or sustainable alternatives

✔️ Try out a Swedish trend where you pick up plastic waste while you’re jogging or walking.
And if you’re near the beach, organize a beach cleanup.

✔️ Minimize your CO2 emissions. Eat more plant-based meals, cycle more often and choose train over plane.

How we do it

We, as Swan Expeditions, also strive to contribute as much as possible. Here are a few small examples:

We encourage our Masterskip trainees to bring ecological products on board, products like toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap and sunscreen from brands like happysoap, Weleda and Marcel’s Green Soap. We also provide a discount code for biodegradable soap and shampoo. We try to use our sails as much as possible, pick up trash from the ocean when we encounter any and we use and sell refillable water bottles.

Next to that, it happens sometimes that Masterskip trainees work together with for instance non-profit foundation ‘The Ocean Cleanup’ to support their goal. Which is developing and scaling technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. Read more about this at our blogpage on masterskip.com.

There are many more ways to contribute, so are you ready to take action? We are!
