OUR FLEET

WYLDE SWAN

Tall Ship Wylde Swan is the first ship of our fleet. She originates from 1920, when she served as a herring hunter in the North Sea. She was then named ‘Jemo’. In 2010 she came into service as a two-masted topsail schooner.

FAST AND WILD

The Wylde Swan is fast and wild. In summer she sails in Iceland and Greenland and sometimes participates in the Tallship races around Europe. In winter she mainly sails in the Caribbean with our educational program called ‘Masterskip’.

With a length of 60m and mustheight of 43m she’s quite a large boat. However, its size allows to sail into fjords and manoeuvre there, cast an anchor and bring trainees ashore using zodiacs.

OUR FLEET

NOORDERLICHT

The second Tall Ship of the Swan Expeditions -fleet is called ‘Noorderlicht’. She originates from 1910. As a lightship, the three-masted schooner was anchored in the limestone soils of Flensburg.

ICE-STRENGTHENED BOW

The sails were only used for emergencies or to sail to the harbor for major maintenance. In 1993 it was decided to refit the old hull and convert it into a two-masted schooner. Noorderlicht has an ice-strengthened bow and can therefore sail in the polar regions: In the middle of winter in Antarctica and in the middle of summer in Spitsbergen.

Due to it’s small size and little draft, the ship offers the ideal opportunity to explore hard-to-reach places and islands.
